Benny Rodrigues - 4U (Promo Mix) 2011-04-23

Benny Rodrigues 4U (23-04-2011) by bennyrodrigues

no obscure detroit/electronica tracks for black t-shirts wearing nerds.
no banging techno for hard sweating purists.
no soulful vocal deephouse for those who like it warm.
no cheesy latin/afro house for dem hip swinging sexy ladies.
no raw chicago acid for the warehouse freaks. (Jack?)
and last but no least, no boring 'middle of the road' tech-house for fist-pumping hipsters either...., hmmm, ok, maybe a lil' bit ;-)
instead, 60 minutes full of light accesible big-room summer hits :-D
it's all about playing ALL the music you love AND putting that in the right context. if you know you know.
Let's Get The Party Started.
njoy!

Osunlade - Background Techno Experience Podcast #197 - 14-04-2011

Osunlade - Background Techno Experience Podcast #197 - 14-04-2011

Osunlade is an artist who personifies art. His music as well as his being creates unified melodies manifested with balance, life and wisdom. Hailing from St. Louis Missouri, a place known for pioneering jazz, blues as well, innovative artists like Miles Davis. At age seven Osunlade discovered the piano and the vision of his life’s destiny was born. By the age twelve he found an interest in creating songs of his own. He later formed local bands, taught himself several instruments and studied further the development of his craft.

His professional journey began in 1988, at age seventeen during a visit to Hollywood. He quickly caught the ear of choreographer/performer Toni “Mickey” Basil. Offering him a role in the development of musical pieces for several projects including the children’s television series Sesame Street. With her encouragement he quickly moved to Los Angeles and began what would become a long history of music production. A few years later he would produce the very first album for the then independent Interscope Records. The artist was Gerardo, a long time friend and aspiring actor/dancer. “Rico Suave” one of the very first Latin pop songs and novelty catch phrases to date was born. Now with a multi-platinum album and four gold singles to his name, it wasn’t long before he was afforded many opportunities to master his craft.

Within the next ten years and over twenty albums credited, Osunlade felt the pressures and practices of the music business overshadowed his passion of music. He deciding to no longer work under the influences of corporate ideals and demands. Chosing to find spiritual solace and honor his soul, he was led to Ifa, an ancestral based culture/religion based on nature, deriving from the Yoruba tribes of Africa and practiced by the slaves during the Diaspora to America.

In 1999, Osunlade would embark on what is now his dream come true. The founding of Yoruba Records. Recognized as one of the most important dance music labels worldwide, Yoruba Records is purely a source of music created to elevate the soul.

As the success of the label grew, so did the demand for Osunlade to expand. In 2001 he released his debut album on the respected Soul Jazz Records label. “Paradigm” quickly became on of the biggest house albums that year and dubbed him the messiah of ancestral house music. With the support of dj’s worldwide and his music now introduced to a wider spectrum of listeners, this veteran musician/composer/producer becoming the artist finally achieved balance within.

Now known for his legendary dj sets and remixes and fourteen albums including several mix cd’s, Osunlade has placed himself on solid ground., his passion is in Yoruba Records maintaining its reputation of its unparallel quality in music.

Marcel Dettmann - SEDUCTION (oki-ni MS020) 2011-04-14

Known within dance music circles as one of the world’s most accomplished DJs, Marcel Dettmann has compiled a dark and brooding mix, not from the dancefloor of Berghain, but from the “special self” of his record collection. Essentially Germanic, his mix blends haunting Krautrock, The Cure and sections of the score fromDas Boot

Marcel DettmannA man of many acronyms, Marcel Dettmann grew up in the GDR, spent much of his youth listening to EBM and early techno in 90s Berlin, and today runs his own independent label, MDR.

A resident at Berghain, the Mecca of techno, Marcel is a DJ first and foremost. Yet he wanted to deliver more than ‘just another DJ mix’ with his contribution to our mix series. In fact, he wanted it to sound like ‘a private party in my studio’, as he explains:

‘I started to check in that special part of my record shelf where I'm normally rarely seen and there I found
Cluster - Zuckerzeit, a record which was given to me by my dad because I used to listen to it so often when I was a child.’

‘The whole process of putting the tracks for the mix together evolved into an interesting journey through time for me, because there are so many special moments connected with all of these tracks, particularly with the old ones.
Eingeschlossen, for example, is taken from one of my favorite soundtracks (Das Boot), produced by Klaus Doldinger.’

Octave One - LWE Podcast 80 2011-04-04

Octave One have long been one of the more prolific techno outfits that came through in the waves of talent from Detroit during the late ’80s to early ’90s. Originally comprised of brothers Lawrence, Lenny and Lynell Burden, their energetic, funk infused style of techno was heralded by their 1990 debut track “I Believe” with Lisa Newberry on vocals. Soon after this they established their own record label 430 West and slowly began releasing the tracks that would make up some twenty single releases, seven albums and countless remixes. Their tracks have always possessed a raw edge, whether it’s the percussive-heavy, spooky tribalism “Night Illusion,” the spare, minimalistic funk of “Art and Soul” or the tense, on-the-wire feeling of “DayStar Rising.” Coupled with a spine tingling fragility present throughout many of their works (and epitomized on their hit “Black Water”), Octave One productions provide for the mind, the body and the soul. Later incorporating siblings Lance and Lorne into Octave One, the five Burden brothers have proven to be an important part of Detroit music history and indeed the greater history of techno. LWE caught up with the Burdens to ask for a potted history of the group and to find out what they’ve got in store for us in the near future. Our 80th exclusive podcast is a blazing live set recorded at The Underground in Dublin, an hour of Detroit techno that will blow your hair back and have you checking for when Octave One will hit your town.

Ben Sims presents....Funk you! 003 by ben sims

Resident Advisor RA.010 Serge Santiago

Resident Advisor RA.010 Serge Santiago

The tenth edition of the Resident Advisor podcast is brought to you by former Radio Slave member and edits specialist Serge Santiago.

Santiago brings a playful cowboy vibe and distorted twang to his productions, but as a DJ he is surprisingly eclectic. On this mix, a deep respect for Chicago house shines through alongside his trademark electro fun and games. The set also features three brand new cuts of hotter-than-fire arpeggiated madness from Detroit techno legend Carl Craig.

Santiago's collaboration with Matt Edwards as Radio Slave resulted in the release of over thirty remixes before the pair went their separate ways in 2005. Highlights of this deep catalogue include reworkings of Kylie Minogue, Tiga and Fisherspooner.

Santiago is also known for his colour series, a string of six Italo-disco/house re-edits, each packaged in a differently coloured sleeve. Quietly released in 2004-2005, the series was quickly snapped up by those with an eye for prized cuts of vinyl.

Since then Santiago has set-up his own label Arcobaleno Records and the epic Atto D’Amore, its first release, brings this podcast to a close. Santiago talked to RA about his colourful mix...

What have you been working on recently?

I have been getting the Candidate brand up and running for my label. The first track, "Anticipation," is looking very good, lots of great feedback from it already. I've just finished a remix for Sunshine Underground on City Rockers which turned out great, sounding very bandy and live. A new series ofcoloured edits are on their way too, six in all I hope.

Where was the mix recorded?

It was done in Paris in T1T's Studio. He's a great friend with a great set up that gives everything an edge with warmth. He's a lovely guy too, big thanks to him.

What are you up to next?

I've got a remix on Stompa Phunk on its way at some point, as well as some other labels too. I am off to Australia in June again, always have a laugh out there, lovely people. And as I said, I'm just plugging away at the edits...
